Montréal accueille les Journées économiques Québec–Canada–Sénégal
Senegal, Quebec, and Canada are preparing to give new impetus to their cooperation with the upcoming Quebec–Canada–Senegal Economic Days. This event, organized under the auspices of the SE-BEC-CAN business circle, is presented as a concrete response to an unstable global context, marked by "a period of significant economic and geopolitical uncertainty across the globe."
The initiators of this meeting point out that Senegal and Canada, through Quebec, share "cultural and linguistic affinities" as well as a common strategic vision focused on prosperity and equity. On the Senegalese side, the National Transformation Agenda "Senegal 2050" sets out the ambition to build "a sovereign, just, prosperous nation rooted in strong values, in a progressing Africa." On the Quebec and Canadian sides, the first "Territorial Strategy for Africa," supported by Canada's "Strategy for Africa (2025)," aims to establish "a new type of partnership for shared prosperity and security."
The organizers have defined seven specific objectives. They intend to "present investment opportunities in priority sectors of Senegal 2050," but also to "promote the priority actions of the new Territorial Strategy for Africa" and "facilitate B2B meetings between Senegalese, Quebecois, and Canadian entrepreneurs." The approach also includes the establishment of institutional partnerships in agriculture, digital technology, research, vocational training, health, renewable energy, and infrastructure.
The program will span three days. The first day will be devoted to an institutional session with presentations on "the macroeconomic framework, ongoing reforms, and investment opportunities in Senegal." Roundtable discussions will provide an opportunity to discuss the status and prospects of bilateral economic relations. The second day will be structured around sectoral panels and thematic workshops, with project presentations and testimonials from companies already established in Senegal.
Finally, the third day will open the way to B2B meetings, signing agreements and visits to model companies in Quebec.
Expected participants come from various backgrounds: government authorities, investment promotion agencies, employer organizations, financial institutions, chambers of commerce, universities and the Senegalese diaspora living in Canada.
The expected benefits are numerous. The promoters are counting on "the signing of several partnership agreements between Senegalese and Canadian/Quebec companies" and "direct investment commitments in Senegal." The objective is also to establish a permanent framework for economic consultation and to stimulate a "significant increase in bilateral trade over the next three years."
Created in 2022, the SE-BEC-CAN business circle, which initiated the initiative, brings together Senegalese, Quebecois, and Canadian entrepreneurs. Its mission is to "promote and develop business ties between private sector stakeholders" and foster the creation of synergies.
The organizers summarize their ambition during these days: they "fit perfectly into the visions shared by both countries and offer a concrete platform to attract investments, develop win-win business partnerships and promote the image of Senegal as a preferred destination for business in West Africa."
