Although crafts constitute an important link in the Senegalese economy and hold strong development potential, access for professionals to public procurement, particularly through the National Furniture project, remains a real obstacle. Insa Dièye, President of the Chamber of Trades of Senegal, quoted in Le Soleil, points to the centralization of procedures and bureaucratic hurdles that hinder artisans' participation in public contracts.
To remedy this, he advocates a territorialization of calls for tenders, believing that each academic inspection should be able to manage its own orders for tables and benches in order to directly benefit local craftsmen.
Acknowledging organizational shortcomings within the sector, Insa Dièye advocates for the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the State and the National Union of Chambers of Trades. According to him, such a partnership would allow for better structuring of the sector, strengthen the capacities of vocational training centers, and facilitate access to economic opportunities for artisans.
Despite persistent difficulties, he is optimistic following consultations with the authorities and considers the opening of public procurement as an essential lever to support national production and contribute to the success of the country's industrialization policy.
