Sénégal-Fmi : Discussions sur «d’autres mesures», avant l’examen «crucial» du Conseil d’administration
Following the so-called "hidden debt" affair, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) sent a mission to Senegal last August. The mission discussed with the authorities the measures to be taken to remedy the situation.
"This point was crucial before the review that will be carried out by our Board of Directors," said Julie Kozack, head of communications for the financial institution.
Speaking to the press last Wednesday, she recalled that their mission to Senegal last August had also examined the current debt situation and discussed with the authorities the outlines of a possible new program supported by the IMF.
"This mission was therefore an important step in putting an end to this situation and moving forward with Senegal," she added.
But Ms. Kozack announced that "further measures are still being discussed between the authorities and the IMF staff." And these discussions, she said, "must be concluded before the Executive Board can examine the case of false declarations."
Overall, she said, these measures and reforms are necessary to restore budget transparency and ensure the reliability of budget reporting and prevent future cases of misrepresentation.
"Our support to Senegal aims to help it restore the transparency and credibility needed to regain public trust and support," she said.
