Économie sénégalaise : "Flambée" du chômage qui atteint son niveau le plus élevé depuis 2022 (Statistiques)
Unemployment in Senegal has reached a new peak. Indeed, for the fourth quarter of 2025, the (broad) unemployment rate is estimated at 23.3%, compared to 19.2% in the third quarter of 2025. This represents an increase of 4.1%.
This also represents an increase of 3.3 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024 (20.0%), according to the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).
The young people hit hard
In its national employment survey report for Senegal (ENES), it indicates that the rate is much higher in rural areas where it stood at 29.2%. In urban areas, it is at 19.6%.
Moreover, the unemployment rate is much higher among young people. Within this segment of society, it peaks at 27.4% compared to 18.7% among adults, according to the ANSD report.
Women are more affected
Depending on gender, women are more affected by unemployment, regardless of age group and place of residence.
In the strict sense of the ILO, unemployment stood at 5.4% in the quarter under review, specifies the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).
