Dette du Sénégal : les députés Pastef persistent et signent
Pastef MPs remain fully supportive of the government's decision to reject a restructuring of Senegal's debt. They plan to formalize their support by adopting a resolution to that effect. Initially, the proposal was scheduled to be examined in committee on March 24th. Postponed to a later date, the session has now been rescheduled.
"At the last meeting of the National Assembly bureau, a decision was made to set the timetable. Thus, the deputies agreed that the Finance Committee will meet on Monday, May 11 at 10 a.m. to examine the draft resolution on the non-restructuring of the debt," reports Les Échos in its edition this Thursday.
The newspaper adds: "A few days later, on Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m., the draft resolution will be examined in plenary session."
Instead of restructuring, as advocated by the IMF, Ousmane Sonko's government opted for "reprofiling," an "active debt management" approach. This mechanism applies to both bank debt and external debt.
For the first category, the Minister of Finance and Budget, Cheikh Diba, had declared that the profiling "has freed up more than 500 billion CFA francs of budgetary space." "That is exactly what we intend to do with the external debt," he had rejoiced.
