Top 10 des pays les plus riches d’Afrique en 2026 (HelloSafe Prosperity Index)
On April 9, the HelloSafe platform published an update to its ranking of the richest countries in the world in 2026. Norway, Iceland, and Luxembourg occupy the top spots.
In Africa, more specifically, the Seychelles are leading the way. They are followed by Mauritius, Algeria, Gabon, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Botswana, Morocco and South Africa.
The Seychelles have a GDP per capita at purchasing power parity (PPP) of $42,110 (23,452,793 CFA francs). This is the highest on the continent. They also have the best HDI in Africa (0.848) and a relatively balanced income distribution.
Mauritius, which comes behind the East African archipelago with a GNI of $12,570 (7,000,750 CFA francs) and an HDI of 0.806. Algeria occupies 3rd place thanks to the most egalitarian income distribution of the African panel.
The indicators considered
The HelloSafe Prosperity Index measures prosperity: not what a country produces, but the quality of life of its people. It therefore takes into account indicators such as GDP per capita, Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, the Human Development Index (HDI), income inequality, and the relative poverty rate.
Income inequality and the poverty rate are inversely related: the more egalitarian a country is, the higher its score.
