A meeting dedicated to the UCAD Mines project was held last Wednesday, chaired by Rector Alioune Badara Kandji. During the meeting, the Director of ENSMG-UCAD, Professor Mahamadane Diène, presented the project's objectives. It is structured around two complementary pillars: firstly, quarrying, with prospecting and processing activities for construction materials; and secondly, mineral exploration and development, particularly in high-potential areas of eastern Senegal.

The UCAD Mines project is led by the National School of Mines and Geology (ENSMG) at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD). It aims to enhance the university's scientific and technical potential. The project also aspires to contribute to national economic development.

Through this initiative, UCAD clearly affirms its ambition to establish itself as a strategic player in the mining sector. In a context of high demand for construction materials and dwindling resources in the Dakar region, this project appears as an innovative and structuring response.

Beyond its economic impact, the project is part of a dynamic of training and employability. It offers students concrete opportunities for learning and professional immersion.

In this regard, the rector welcomed an initiative perfectly aligned with his vision of a UCAD that creates value and impact. He emphasized the need for a gradual approach, based on scientific rigor and respect for environmental requirements.

Thus, Alioune Badara Kandji recommended structuring the project around a dedicated technical team, while ensuring that the fundamental missions of the university are preserved, namely: training and research.

The presentation of bricks and paving stones made from local materials concretely illustrates the innovative potential of ENSMG-UCAD. In this spirit, the rector encouraged collaboration with the DGDU to integrate these solutions into UCAD's construction projects.
