Uemoa : Le gouverneur de la Bceao dévoile les chiffres du "dynamisme"

The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) held the third ordinary session of its Monetary Policy Committee (CPM) this Wednesday.

During the meeting, Governor Jean-Claude Kassi Brou reported that activity remained dynamic in the second quarter of 2025 in the WAEMU region. Real GDP grew by 6.5% year-on-year during the period, following a 7% increase in the previous quarter.

The Governor of the BCEAO reports that the good performance of demand and the dynamism in the oil, gas and agricultural sectors, "suggest for the year 2025, a robust growth projected at 6.3%, identical to that of 2024."

Also during the second quarter of the year, the inflation rate continued its downward trend. It stood at 0.6%, driven by improved food supplies on local markets, the easing of imported food costs, and lower fuel prices at the pump in some countries.

Furthermore, the external accounts situation also improved in the first half of 2025. However, it remains subject to downward risks, partly linked to international uncertainties which could worsen the terms of trade.

Also, according to the Governor of the BCEAO, on the money market, conditions eased during the second quarter of 2025, with an adequate level of liquidity in the banking system and the recent drop in key rates.
