Colobane (Gossas) : 50 hectares affectés à l’UCAD pour un agropole
The municipality of Colobane, located in the department of Gossas, has granted 50 hectares of land to Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar for the development of an agropole. The decision was formalized on Saturday with the signing of an agreement under the authority of the Rector of UCAD, Professor Alioune Badara Kandji, and the mayor of Gossas, Dame Ndiaye.

With this agropole, UCAD will mobilize all its expertise to explore different activities in the primary sector. "From agriculture to aquaculture, including fish farming and livestock farming, our ambition is to offer a new approach to agriculture, livestock farming, but above all to teaching and learning," explains the Rector of UCAD, Professor Alioune Badara Kandji.
With this initiative, the University aims to find alternative funding sources, a testing ground for research, and to facilitate the integration of graduates through entrepreneurship and innovation. The core idea is that UCAD can and must not only support its community of 100,000 people but also contribute to the development of Senegal as a whole. The concept here is to foster a circular university economy, in partnership with social welfare organizations and local communities.
For years, UCAD has been building closer ties with communities through its rural campuses and civic engagement activities. Now, according to the Rector, the time has come to take the next step, following the example of Anglo-Saxon universities and those in the Maghreb. "Current economic geopolitics and the battle for food sovereignty demand that our beloved University play an active role in the development effort in all its facets, and this necessarily involves adopting new directions," the Rector emphasizes.
For the mayor of Gossas, Dame Ndiaye, this agreement represents the meeting of two institutions driven by a shared desire to contribute to Senegal's development. He emphasizes that by hosting a pilot farm, Colobane will benefit from modern infrastructure, which will have a tangible impact.
Furthermore, he added, UCAD will support the municipality through training and guidance. "We are a young municipality that needs support in structuring major projects, community services, health, agriculture and many other areas," the mayor stated.
