Concert de casseroles à l'UIDT : Colère contre la suppression des bourses de fin de cycle
Students from Iba Der Thiam University of Thiès (UIDT-T) came out en masse on the evening of Wednesday, December 3, 2025, to shout their distress through a pot-banging concert organized on campus.
Armed with pots, pans, bowls, and other objects that could serve as deafening means of expression, they succeeded in their mobilization efforts as part of their fight against, they say, "the decision taken by the Directorate of Scholarships through the Ministry of Higher Education, which aims to eliminate students at the end of their cycle (Bachelor's, Master's) based on scholarship recipients."
These students, demanding full payment of the 13 months of back tuition, say they are more determined than ever to confront this "unilateral, unfair, and deplorable decision." This is an opportunity for them to revisit the numerous problems plaguing the campus.
“This week, last week we observed a total cessation of educational activities, in addition to 48 hours of days without tickets,” notes Baye Modou Dieng, vice-president of the Conference of Student Associations (CAE), the only structure defending the interests of students at the Iba Der Thiam University of Thiès (UIDT).
He informs the public and the relevant authorities of the growing concern of students regarding the non-receipt of payment statements relating to the back payments for the months of October and November.
“To date, many public universities in Senegal have already received their payment statements, allowing their students to clearly understand their situation. However, UIDT-T remains one of the few institutions that has not yet received any official document in this regard, plunging its students into total uncertainty and creating a climate of frustration and incomprehension,” stressed the officials of the Conference of Student Associations (CAE).
They denounce this situation, which has persisted for several days and directly affects the peace and stability of the student community. The lack of official information prevents these students from fully exercising their rights and jeopardizes the planning of their academic and social activities.
Faced with this lack of diligence, the students of the University of Thiès had, last week, decreed a total cessation of educational activities, in addition to 48 hours of days without tickets (JST) starting from Thursday, November 27, 2025. Ben Momar Diouf and colleagues note that this action aims to defend the interests of the students and to demand the immediate transmission of payment statements, essential to guarantee transparency and respect for the rights of the student community.
We also dare to hope that these actions will push the authorities to finally take the necessary steps to resolve this situation as quickly as possible. Furthermore, the CAE wishes to remind the authorities that the issue of the 1000-bed dormitories remains a major concern for all students at UIDT-T.
"For several years, we have been demanding the complete completion and final delivery of these pavilions, the commissioning of which is an absolute emergency in the face of the accommodation crisis that is raging within our university," lament the students, who warn: no unfulfilled promise can be accepted by the Conference.
Ben Momar Diouf reiterates that student safety remains an absolute priority for the Conference, hence the urgent need to expedite procedures. Furthermore, the Conference of Student Associations draws the authorities' attention to another equally concerning situation: the unjustified non-participation of the UIDT's Faculty of Health Sciences in the National Pharmacy Residency Examination.
According to him, despite the timely submission of applications, the applications of Pharmacy students were rejected without valid reason due to administrative delays, thus depriving our classmates of a fundamental academic right.
The conference reaffirms its commitment and availability to all students. It intends to continue its efforts to improve their well-being and learning conditions.
