Crise dans l’éducation : Le G7 syndical annonce un nouveau plan d’action et maintient la pression sur le gouvernement
Meeting this Monday, February 23, 2026, at the SAEMSS headquarters, the G7 of Senegalese education unions assessed the situation of the Senegalese education system and adopted a fifth action plan marked by strikes and work stoppages. The unions denounced, in particular, the government's failure to honor its commitments and demanded concrete responses to outstanding demands.
A situation deemed worrying for Senegalese schools
In its statement, the G7 deplores the "difficult situation" facing the education and training sector. The unions point to the authorities' inaction regarding the implementation of signed agreements, as well as the decision, deemed unilateral, to renege on certain gains from previous negotiations.
The unified framework also criticizes the lack of a follow-up meeting with the government, which had been announced, to provide diligent solutions to teachers' concerns.
The G7, however, welcomed the efforts of COSYDEP and the Education, Youth, Sports and Recreation Commission of the National Assembly of Senegal, which are committed to reviving dialogue between stakeholders in the education system.
The unions also noted the massive support of teachers for previous slogans, believing that this mobilization confirms the extent of the unease in the sector.
A fifth action plan to increase the pressure
Following the evaluation of its fourth action plan, the G7 announced a new series of moves:
• Wednesday, February 25, 2026: work stoppage starting at 9 a.m. followed by departmental general assemblies;
• Thursday, February 26, 2026: total strike;
• Monday, March 2, 2026: work stoppage starting at 9 a.m.;
• Tuesday, March 3, 2026: work stoppage starting at 9 a.m. followed by gatherings at the level of the academy inspections;
• Friday, March 6, 2026: total strike.
The unions also announced the continuation of the boycott of assessments, educational support units, student-teacher training, and school sports activities.
While calling on teachers to continue their mobilization, the G7 stressed the urgent need to address outstanding social issues and find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the education system. Union leaders reaffirmed their determination to continue the struggle until their demands are met, believing that the future of Senegalese schools depends on it.
