Crise scolaire : Le G7 durcit le ton et lance un quatrième plan d’action national
Meeting in plenary session this Monday, February 9, 2026, at the SELS headquarters in Dakar, the G7 inter-union group took stock of its previous slogans, which it deemed "largely positive," before announcing a fourth action plan that promises to be decisive for Senegalese schools.
At the heart of the demands: the effective implementation of agreements signed with the State, wage fairness and the improvement of working conditions for teachers.
A national mobilization that was praised
Union officials congratulated teachers for their "exceptional mobilization" across the country.
According to the G7, the general assemblies saw strong participation, the march organized in Thiès was a success and the rate of adherence to the slogans was high in many constituencies, leading to the postponement of school exams in several localities.
However, the plenary session deplored the failure of some staff to respect the boycott of assessments, but also practices deemed "illegal" by some school principals, accused of having tests administered by unauthorized persons.
Progress has been acknowledged, but deemed insufficient.

The boycott concerns assessments, compositions, educational animation cells, initial training of student teachers as well as physical and sporting activities.
In conclusion, the G7 calls on all teachers in Senegal to maintain the mobilization, believing that this struggle aims to build "a school conducive to endogenous, just and equitable development".
The school crisis thus seems to be entering a new phase, with a standoff that could significantly impact the educational calendar if no quick solution is found between the government and the unions.
