Crise universitaire au Sénégal : Alioune Tine plaide pour un dialogue inclusif
The president of Afrikajom Center spoke about the university crisis in Senegal, particularly regarding student scholarships and university catering.
Invited to the program "En Vérité" on Radio Senegal, Alioune Tine argued for an inclusive dialogue with students, believing that reforms to higher education remain inevitable.
According to the human rights activist, the recurring difficulties related to scholarships reflect the structural limitations of the current university system. "Higher education must be reformed as a matter of urgency," he stated.
He also highlighted the growing impact of new technologies, digital technology, and cognitive technologies on learning methods.
For Alioune Tine, the classic model, based solely on classrooms, is destined to evolve, or even disappear in the long run.
Addressing the issue of scholarships specifically, the president of Afrikajom Center also called on the State to prioritize an open and calm dialogue with all actors in the student movement.
"The state must listen to everyone and avoid unilateral decisions," he argued, believing that exclusively bureaucratic or technocratic approaches have shown their limitations in the past.
When asked about the closure of university restaurants, Mr. Tine replied: the university is a true social barometer. When there is a problem with food at the university, it also means that society is hungry.
For Alioune Tine, these tensions are the broader expression of an economic crisis marked by debt and latent austerity policies.
Recognizing the need to address economic constraints, he urged the government to act gradually and responsibly, clearly explaining the situation to the public. "Discussion is essential to make people understand that the crisis is real and that sacrifices will be necessary."
In conclusion, the legal expert reaffirmed that dialogue remains the only sustainable way to preserve social and academic stability.
