Crise universitaire : le collectif des amicales dénonce des décisions « imposées ».
In its statement, the collective of student associations, presented as the umbrella structure for student representation, believes that the current situation in Senegalese universities is "alarming" and requires deep and sincere discussions between the different stakeholders.
According to the document, the authorities held several meetings and made decisions without the participation of student representatives. The group cites, in particular, the gradual reopening of campuses while keeping two residence halls housing more than 2,000 students closed.
This approach is perceived by student organizations as a partial measure that does not guarantee equal treatment between students.
Demands focused on dialogue and the full reopening of campuses
Faced with this situation, the association collective is making several demands. First, it is calling for the lifting of the suspensions imposed on certain associations, a decision it considers "illegal" and likely to be challenged before the Supreme Court of Senegal.
The student representatives are also demanding:
• holding inclusive forums to discuss university reforms;
• the care of students injured during the recent events;
• the reopening of all pavilions in order to ensure equality between students.
The group also indicates that it is closely following the ongoing investigations into the death of student Abdoulaye Ba, a case that continues to arouse strong emotion within the university community.
In its message, the group calls on students to show restraint and wait for further official guidance before returning to campuses.
While declaring themselves open to dialogue, student organizations warn that they will not accept "the imposition of a single way of thinking" and reaffirm their commitment to defending the interests of the university community.
This new media appearance comes amid persistent tensions in higher education, where issues related to students' social conditions and university governance remain at the heart of concerns.
