Kédougou : un « Ubbi Tey, Diang Tey » compromis par l’absence des élèves
The start of the school year, under the banner of "Ubbi Tey, Diang Tey" (open today, learn today), did not live up to all its promises in Kédougou. In several schools visited, classrooms remained desperately empty. Only teachers and administrative staff responded to the call, much to the regret of local authorities.
Leading a large delegation, El Hadj Mouhamadou Moustapha Gaye, deputy governor for development, toured several schools in the commune to inquire about the effectiveness of the resumption of classes. "We found well-prepared establishments, mobilized teachers, and available materials. Unfortunately, the absence of students has seriously compromised the 'Ubbi Tey, Diang Tey'. We urge parents to release their children so that they can quickly return to school," Mr. Gaye told Aliou Badara Diémé.
A teacher shortage still a problem
The administrative authority also took the opportunity to address the persistent teacher shortage in the region. This problem has worsened in recent months with the mass departure of several teachers to other locations. "We hope that the upcoming assignment of student teachers, who have just completed their initial training, will help fill this gap and ensure adequate supervision in our schools," the deputy governor said.
