Khalifa Sall : « Un pays qui frappe et affame ses étudiants compromet son futur »
The violence at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) continues to spark outrage among politicians and the public. Khalifa Ababacar Sall, president of Taxawu Sénégal, strongly condemned the government's handling of the student crisis, which he described as a symptom of profound political and social failure.
“The images of fire and blood reaching us from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar are a symptom of the failure of a regime incapable of honoring its commitments and of a state that opposes legitimate demands with force. After a third democratic transition in Senegal, we never thought we would relive such scenes. When violence replaces public discourse, anger becomes inevitable and responsibility obvious,” laments Khalifa Sall.
He deplores the loss of a student and the numerous injuries, and calls on the government to act with reason and the defense and security forces to exercise restraint. "The university is not a battlefield; it is a sanctuary of knowledge. A country that beats and starves its students jeopardizes its own future. It is therefore urgent to proceed with the full payment of scholarships, in strict accordance with the commitments made. To govern is to keep one's word. Maintaining order is neither to repress justice nor to stifle the truth," he insists.
