Enseignement privé : Les 3 piliers qui vont tout changer dès cette année
At the end of the second day of the national symposium on private education, this Tuesday, May 5, 2026, one conviction emerges: the sector is already evolving, but the recommendations from the work must now serve as a lever to better regulate and support it.
The committees presented their reports, outlining a diagnosis marked by economic vulnerabilities, the significant presence of the informal sector, and disparities in quality, but also by strong potential for innovation. The discussions highlighted the high expectations of stakeholders regarding the Ministry of National Education.
At the close of the proceedings, the Minister of National Education, Moustapha Guirassy, commended the frank assessment and reiterated the three pillars of the reform: structuring, regulation, and development. He highlighted recommendations focusing particularly on reforming the regulatory framework, ensuring the viability of schools, fostering public-private partnerships, establishing quality standards, and improving teacher training and protection.
Beyond the institutional framework, the discussions revealed a private sector already undergoing a major transformation.
This is the case with the Franco-Senegalese school, which presented a hybrid model combining Senegalese and French curricula, open to students of more than twenty nationalities. The school also focuses on digital technology through Fab Labs and advocates for the sharing of resources between institutions.
In the same vein, the IQRA Bilingual Academy develops a pedagogy based on linguistic immersion in French, English, and Arabic, within a multicultural environment. The school emphasizes international openness and the integration of students from non-French-speaking backgrounds, particularly those from daaras (Koranic schools).
These initiatives reflect a shared expectation: more structured support from the State in the face of already underway dynamics. The symposium's recommendations thus appear as a response to these needs.
Now, the challenge is their implementation, in a context where private education in Senegal is at a turning point between expected reforms and changes already underway.
