Retards de salaires des enseignants : l’UDEN dénonce une situation « scandaleuse »
The Democratic Union of Teachers of Senegal (UDEN) has taken a stand to denounce serious dysfunctions in the salary treatment of certain teachers, particularly Contractual Teachers (MC) and Contractual Professors (PC), in several academic inspections of the country.
In a press release published on January 3, 2026, the union points to a clear lack of diligence in the payment of the salaries of these education workers, a situation which plunges many teachers into acute financial difficulties, particularly during this holiday period and on the eve of the resumption of classes.
According to the UDEN, these payment delays reflect an unacceptable disregard for colleagues who play a vital role in the functioning of the national education system. The union bluntly describes the situation as "scandalous" and an unjustified discrimination against emerging professionals in the education sector.
Faced with this situation, the UDEN (Union of National Education Teachers) is making several clear demands. First, it is calling for the immediate payment of salaries owed to the teachers concerned. It is also calling for equitable treatment of all teachers, whether tenured or contract employees, in order to put an end to the disparities observed in administrative and salary management.
Furthermore, the union deplores what it describes as a structural injustice towards contract teachers and calls on the relevant authorities to take urgent and lasting measures to prevent such shortcomings from recurring in the future.
UDEN finally urges the Ministry of National Education and the regional education authorities to fully assume their responsibilities, in the interest of teachers and the stability of the Senegalese education system.
