Saint-Louis : Mansour Faye inaugure l’école élémentaire Fandiéry Koné, fruit d’un investissement de 158 millions FCFA
The municipality of Saint-Louis is strengthening its educational infrastructure. The mayor of the city, Amadou Mansour Faye, officially inaugurated the Fandiéry Koné Elementary School on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Completely rebuilt thanks to the Support Program for Municipalities and Urban Areas of Senegal (PACASEN), the infrastructure required a total investment of 158 million CFA francs, financed by the municipality of Saint-Louis.
Speaking before educational authorities, prominent figures from the Khor neighborhood, and members of the school's management committee, the mayor reiterated that the old school was in a state of advanced disrepair, exposing students and teachers to serious risks. "The conditions were no longer in place to ensure the safety of the children or a peaceful learning environment. It was our duty to act without delay, demolishing the existing structure to rebuild a modern school worthy of our ambitions," he explained.
For the mayor, this project represents a major structural investment for the Khor district. It now offers students a safe, modern learning environment that meets current standards. This progress, he believes, illustrates the tangible benefits of decentralization. "When local resources are managed rigorously and transparently, they translate into sustainable investments that directly benefit the population," he emphasized.
A historic city and the cradle of knowledge in Senegal, Saint-Louis has a duty, according to Amadou Mansour Faye, to preserve its educational heritage. He emphasized the responsibility of local authorities to guarantee every child a school environment conducive to their development and success.
Reviewing the achievements of the PACASEN program in the municipality, the mayor indicated that the program has enabled the reconstruction or renovation of eight elementary schools, four of which are already completed. He also announced the launch, during 2026, of construction on five new schools, as part of the municipality's educational investment program.
Taking advantage of the ceremony, the mayor of the three-hundred-year-old city unveiled the main points of the Tourism Development Program 2. An ambitious project which notably includes the rehabilitation of the Khayar Mbengue school, the construction of a new elementary school in the Serras area where the site is already available, as well as the rehabilitation of the governance and the emblematic Saint-Louis train station.
