UCAD : le SAES condamne les violences et exige le retrait des forces de l’ordre
The Dakar campus coordination of the Autonomous Union of Higher Education (SAES) condemns "in the strongest possible terms" the current situation at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, where violence has caused the death of a student.
According to the union, these tensions are linked "to scholarship reform and persistent structural problems in higher education."
The SAES demands respect for the university franchises guaranteed by law no. 94-79 of November 7, 1994.
The union stated that it "deeply regrets the death of a student and offers its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and the entire university community." It reiterated that "the university is neither a barracks nor a security testing ground." Furthermore, the union members demanded "the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of law enforcement from the campus and the prompt reopening of university restaurants, which are essential for the dignity and safety of students."
The SAES finally calls "for a frank, responsible and unconditional dialogue and calls on the Government to unequivocally ensure the protection of teachers and their families living in the academic space".
