UCAD : la proposition de Sonko divise
During his appearance before the deputies on Tuesday, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko instructed the Ministry of the Interior to study the establishment of a police station within the Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD), following the violence that claimed the life of student Abdoulaye Bâ on February 9.
The stated objective is to move away from sporadic and delayed police interventions by establishing a permanent, deterrent security presence better suited to preventing violence. This measure aims to protect infrastructure, guarantee the safety of users, and ensure the continuity of teaching in a calm environment.
However, this prospect is divisive within the student community. Some students, quoted by Le Soleil, see it as a guarantee of essential stability, while others fear a high-risk coexistence. One of them, Pape Demba Baldé, is particularly worried that the permanent police presence will exacerbate new tensions in an area where students and law enforcement have traditionally regarded each other with suspicion.
