UCAD : Le Collectif des amicales dénonce le « mépris » du COUD envers 2 000 étudiants
In Dakar, tensions are rising again within the Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) community. In a press release published on February 25, 2026, the Collective of Student Associations of the institution strongly criticized the decision of the Dakar University Social Services Center (COUD) to reopen the social campuses while keeping pavilions B and F closed.
According to student representatives, this measure leaves more than 2,000 residents who lived in these buildings before their closure without housing. The Collective believes this situation reflects "a lack of responsibility" and denounces a "contempt" for the students concerned.
Concerns about the social conditions of students
In their statement, the student associations highlight the social consequences of this decision, asserting that the lack of support measures exposes many students to increased hardship. They also accuse university authorities of failing to fully guarantee students' fundamental rights.
The Collective points out that the prolonged closure of social campuses, which occurred in the context of the political tensions of 2023 in Senegal, has already severely disrupted the academic calendar and study conditions.
In response to this situation, students are calling on their peers to return to campus on Thursday, February 26, to demonstrate their disagreement. A press conference is also scheduled for Friday, February 27. As a continuation of this mobilization, a general assembly is planned for Monday, March 2, at 10:00 a.m. in front of the COUD administration building to determine next steps.
Despite what they call "delaying tactics," the leaders of the Collective reaffirm their determination to continue their fight for the improvement of social and educational conditions. They conclude by reiterating their "unwavering" commitment to the student community, while calling for unity and responsibility to preserve the stability of the university environment.
