Crise universitaire : Bougane Guèye apporte son soutien aux étudiants et propose des solutions
The Gueum Sa Bopp movement, known as "the Jambaars," led by Bougane Guèye, issued a statement on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, expressing its solidarity with Senegalese students. The political party denounced the abandonment of students by a regime it accuses of preserving its privileges at the expense of the youth's future.
In its statement, Gueum Sa Bopp deplores that the students of Senegal are "abandoned by a regime that preserves its privileges while exposing the future of the Nation to tear gas, batons and humiliation".
The political movement believes this university crisis reveals the impotence of an absent government and a prime minister who "theorizes instead of acting." According to Gueum Sa Bopp, while the university is collapsing, the privileges of those in power continue unabated.
Bougane Guèye's party points to a contrast it considers unacceptable: "In a country where bonuses and government salaries are paid promptly and where people travel in private jets, students should not have to vent their anger to receive a meager scholarship."
For Gueum Sa Bopp, this is a true betrayal: "Politicians get rich, students struggle to exist."
The movement places particular emphasis on respecting university autonomy, which it describes as a "sacred right, won after years of struggle." Gueum Sa Bopp warns that violating this autonomy is to "trample on the dignity of Senegalese students."
Faced with this situation, Gueum Sa Bopp proposes five concrete and immediate measures:
-Firstly, the automatic and full payment of student grants, in order to put an end to the recurring delays that plunge students into precariousness.
-Secondly, the creation of a National Education Bank financed by oil revenues, to guarantee sustainable funding for the education sector.
-Thirdly, the establishment of incubator centers for students in order to guarantee temporary income and the economic autonomy of young people.
-Fourth, strict respect for academic freedoms to preserve the integrity and freedom of academic spaces.
Fifth, the allocation of political funds to the emergencies of the Senegalese education system.
Gueum Sa Bopp concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment: “Gueum Sa Bopp will remain on the side of youth, dignity, and justice. The government can protect its privileges, but we will protect the future of Senegal.”
