Crise universitaire : El Hadj Momar Samb dénonce l’inaction du Gouvernement
The university crisis continues to generate much discussion. While this type of crisis is not new, El Hadj Momar Samb rejects the argument that it stems from a heavy administrative legacy left by previous governments. A guest on the Grand Jury program this Sunday, December 7, 2025, the former minister pointed out that current officials had adopted a firm stance when they were in opposition.
Mr. Samb questions the difference in treatment between civil servants and students: "Ministers receive their salaries, members of parliament receive their emoluments, but why shouldn't students receive their scholarships?"
Recalling the central role of student grants for higher education students, the union representative believes that the authorities must act with the same rigor they apply to the payment of civil servants' salaries. "Similarly, they must organize themselves so that students can receive their grants," he stated.
Beyond the campuses, he emphasizes that the entire education sector is affected. He highlights the mobilization of the G7, a coalition of teachers' unions, and regrets that several agreements signed with the government have not been implemented. The conclusions of past conferences and consultations have not been sufficiently put into practice. "The crisis is structural," insists Mr. Samb, advocating for a renewed dialogue between the government and all stakeholders in the education system.
Furthermore, referring to the suspension of the family security grant, El Hadj Momar Samb denounced a "major social failure" and accused the government of having lost "its sense of concern for the people." According to him, "millions of lives are at risk, even though everything had been budgeted for."
