The general secretaries of the teaching unions in the department of Bakel (SELS, SELS/A, SADEF, SAEMS, Section de Bakel, UDEN) met on June 2 to send a memorandum to the department authorities on the violence (moral and physical) against teachers.

According to these union members, this violence is most often orchestrated in their workplaces by both the local population and the police. They maintain that these acts must stop because teachers do not deserve this treatment, rightly or wrongly!

These cases of violence are recurring in their localities. The latest case is that of the headmaster of the Diyabougou elementary school, in the commune of Kéniéba.

This is why a day of protest marked by a work stoppage will be observed this Thursday, June 4th.

They remind society that the teacher plays an important role; it is the teacher who shapes souls and it is thanks to the teacher that the world has undergone positive transformations.

In the most remote parts of the country, teachers are ever-present and play every role, beyond their professional duties. It's a true calling. They sometimes don't even get vacations because their sole focus, their only creed, is the success of their students. The teacher is a role model. Harming them in front of their students destroys what makes them such a role model.

This is why teachers' unions are calling on the authorities to put an end to all forms of violence against this fighter against obscurantism, whose only weapon is his knowledge.
