« Nous n’allons pas reculer d’un iota » (étudiant)
At UCAD, the announcement by the supervising minister, Professor Daouda Ngom, regarding the start of scholarship payments has reignited tensions. "We want to clarify that these payments concern the 2025-2026 academic year. However, we are demanding payment of the back payments for the 2024-2025 academic year…," replies Pierre Babacar Thiaw, president of the FST's Social Commission and member of the student associations' collective.
As reported by L'Observateur, the student accuses the ministry of sowing confusion, denouncing an "attempt to manipulate public opinion." He reiterates that "scholarships are not a luxury, but a vital right for thousands of students."
Despite the authorization given to the Rector of UCAD to call upon law enforcement, the group remains steadfast. Faced with the Academic Council's decision, they warn: "We will stand firm" and "we will not back down an inch."
