Ziguinchor : La douane sensibilise les élèves du lycée Peyrissac sur ses missions

As a prelude to International Customs Day, the Southern Regional Directorate of Customs officers gave a lesson on customs administration by raising awareness among students at Peyrissac High School about the missions assigned to the soldiers of the economy.

A strategic choice according to Colonel Cheikh Diouf, regional director of customs in the South, and related to this year's theme which focuses on "Customs committed to serving the population".

"We chose the high school to speak to the students who are an important link at the level of families and communities. Through the presentation that was given today, they will be able to convey the message to help communities better understand the missions of the Customs Administration. And this is an important target because they are the ones who will ensure the future. So speaking to this target is indeed of major importance because it will allow the people to better understand the work that we are doing exclusively for their benefit."

The students took this opportunity to ask several questions to the delegation mobilized by the Southern Regional Directorate of Customs. These questions concerned the work of customs officers, fraud, smuggling, tax missions, and the use of collected funds, among other things, much to the satisfaction of Colonel Diouf and his team.

This was also an opportunity for the Southern Regional Directorate of Customs to support the high school with equipment to improve the students' learning conditions and the staff's working conditions. According to Colonel Guèye, this action demonstrates the importance the Customs Administration places on education in its activities.

A gesture warmly welcomed by Djitome Lydie Joséphine Bassène, headmistress of the high school. "We are very happy to receive the customs service, which has made us a very important donation of equipment. For a year, we won't need to buy reams of paper and teaching materials. This demonstrates the commitment of the armed forces to education. We thank this patriotic act, which helps teachers and aims to improve students' academic performance and the working conditions of the teaching staff," said the headmistress of Peyrissac High School.

In the wake of this, the headmistress argued for the inclusion of this type of armed forces activity in the educational program, with a view to instilling a spirit of civic responsibility and strengthening discipline within schools.

"I think they chose the right target for the awareness campaign, because these students are the future of the country. So, if these students are trained and informed, they can raise awareness among their parents at home, and I think it's very important that we include these activities in education. As I've always said in the 'Wadial Xaleyi' program, the army's support is very important in education. I think we must include army activities in schools. It allows us to strengthen discipline and also to encourage students to know what they need to do," argued Djitome Lydie Joséphine Bassène.
