Goudomp : 485 têtes de bétail restituées sur 1 300 volées
Cattle theft is reaching alarming proportions in the Goudomp department (Sedhiou region). The figures revealed during a forum held in the village of Térimbasse are alarming.
In fact, between 2024 and August 2025, more than 1,300 animals were stolen, of which only 485 were returned to their owners.
The information came from the deputy head of the Goudomp Departmental Livestock Service. He was speaking at a community forum organized by the Association for the Development of Balantacounda.
According to Jean-Louis Gomis, this now common phenomenon causes considerable economic losses and weakens the social fabric of rural communities. "Families are losing an essential part of their livelihood," he explained.
The president of the Association for the Development of Balantacounda, for his part, emphasizes the seriousness of the situation: "Sometimes the bandits operate in broad daylight."
Faced with this resurgence, he calls on the active forces of the southern regions to unite their efforts to fight against this cross-border banditry.
The call is also made to the States of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau to take strong and dissuasive measures to put an end to these robberies, which are often carried out with armed force.
