The commune of Ndoffane, located in the Koumbal district of the Kaolack region, recently hosted a conference on the current and future challenges of the oil and gas industry. The event brought together a diverse panel of participants, including government representatives such as the deputy sub-prefect of Koumbal, Mr. Ndiaye, and former minister Birima Mangara, as well as administrative officials, educators, and members of the local community.

The conference was moderated by Professor and writer Amadou Sokhna and also brought together students, business owners, and several women's associations. Malick Dramé, an energy consultant and hydrocarbon analyst, shared his insights on the oil and gas sector through his book "Oil and the World: Dynamics, Challenges, and Prospects of a Strategic Resource."

According to him, the aim of this publication is to provide an essential tool for understanding and mastering the dynamics of this industry. It is intended "to help students, professionals, and citizens acquire solid knowledge on the subject, while addressing the multiple economic, climate, and political challenges it generates."

Malick Dramé emphasized the importance of informing the public on these issues to mitigate the risks associated with the "resource curse," often fueled by misinformation, and to transform these resources into a true blessing. This transformation could be achieved, in particular, through improved employability and the structuring of businesses operating in this sector.

A native of Ndoffane, Mr. Dramé explained that he was particularly keen to organize this conference to inform his fellow citizens about the opportunities offered by this industry. He asserted that the presentation of his book aims to raise awareness and guide the population so that they can benefit from the sector's advantages while being protected from the negative consequences that can accompany hydrocarbon exploitation.

The conference's central theme, "The Oil and Gas Industry Value Chain," generated considerable interest among participants. The discussions were rich and diverse, leading to in-depth reflection and a collective awareness. The attending authorities made a significant contribution to the topic, including recommendations for schools to strengthen education on this subject.

The deputy sub-prefect of Koumbal praised the relevant choice of theme and encouraged the expansion of this type of initiative for remote local populations. He also congratulated Malick Dramé on his internationally acclaimed work, published in seven languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Polish) by European University Editions.
