Bassin du fleuve Gambie : une hausse généralisée des eaux observée dans plusieurs stations hydrométriques

The Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade published its hydrological bulletin on the situation of the Gambia River and its tributaries this Thursday, September 25, 2025. Readings taken at 8 a.m. reveal a general upward trend in water levels, although some stations are recording a slight decrease.

Tributaries under surveillance

  1. Diaguiri Station: The water level reached 3.56 m, up 8 cm from the previous day. However, it remains below the 3.84 m recorded at the same time in 2024.
  2. Afia Pont Station (Thiokoye): the progression is spectacular with a jump of 109 cm in one day, reaching 4.36 m. A figure however lower than the 5.69 m noted in 2024.
  3. Diahra Pont Station: Water level rises to 1.85 m, an increase of 18 cm since September 23. No data was available last year at this time.
  4. Niokolo Koba station: the level drops slightly to 5.76 m compared to 5.80 m the day before, far from the 8.29 m recorded in 2024.
  5. Goumbayel and Sinthiou Malème stations: the levels remain below the scale, making the measurements imprecise.

The Gambia River at Kédougou, Mako, Simenti and Gouloumbou

  1. Kédougou: The river has risen by 18 cm to reach 5.54 m, a level higher than last year (5.41 m). The alert level is set at 7 m.
  2. Simenti: No data could be collected on September 25. The day before, the water level reached 10.59 m, a drop from 12.23 m in 2024. The alert level is set at 13 m.
  3. Mako: The readings indicate a significant drop of 24 cm, reaching 4.55 m. This level remains lower than that of 2024 (4.80 m). The alert level is set at 6 m.
  4. Gouloumbou: the water level rises slightly to 9.60 m, 11 cm more than the day before, but below the 10.33 m of 2024. The alert level is 12 m.

Maintained vigilance

Although several stations are showing significant increases, current levels remain generally below the alert levels set. However, hydrological authorities are reiterating the importance of regularly monitoring the river's development, especially during this period when fluctuations can be rapid and significant.

The situation therefore remains under control, but monitoring continues to prevent any risk of flooding in the riverside areas.
