By Cheikh CAMARA (Correspondent in Thiès)
On Monday, November 10, 2025, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation will officially launch a stormwater drainage project in the city of Tivaouane, funded to the tune of 7.5 billion CFA francs. The program aims to sustainably improve living conditions for the population, protect the environment, and reduce the risks of flooding and stagnant water during the rainy season. It also seeks to prevent waterborne diseases, which are often observed during the rainy season.
The plan includes the construction of 16 km of reinforced concrete canals, 300 m of PVC pipes for connecting secondary roads, and 6,550 m of pipes for connecting grated manholes. A total of 210 manholes will be installed with their technical equipment.
The project, financed by the State of Senegal to the tune of 7,510,672,860 CFA francs including tax, is presented as a major investment intended to strengthen urban resilience and improve public health in Tivaouane.
