Endeavour Mining s’engage contre la pollution plastique à l’occasion de la Journée mondiale de l’environnement
On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated under the theme "End Global Plastic Pollution", in particular through concrete actions against plastic pollution.
Since 2022, the group has implemented an ambitious environmental strategy aimed at eliminating single-use plastic bottles and promoting sustainable waste management. At the Sabodala-Massawa mining site, these efforts are being realized through:
* The installation of drinking water fountains and dispensers,
* The gradual ban on single-use plastic bottles,
* The distribution of reusable water bottles to employees,
* Awareness campaigns and community actions with partner associations.
In 2024, these measures resulted in a 97% reduction in the use of single-use plastic bottles at Endeavour sites. The target for 2025 is to maintain a reduction rate of 95% or higher.
Djaria Traoré, Executive Vice President in charge of Operations and Sustainable Development, states: “The fight against plastic pollution is a priority integrated into our sustainable development strategy. As a responsible industrial player, we want to demonstrate that operational excellence can go hand in hand with environmental performance. Thanks to the involvement of our teams, our partners, and the communities, we are fostering a sustainable environmental culture adapted to local realities.”
Community mobilization
Through its Foundation, Endeavour involves local communities:
The "Learning Goes Green" program, launched in 2024 in Senegal and Ivory Coast, has raised awareness about plastic pollution among more than 5,500 students in 11 schools. It will be extended to Burkina Faso in 2025. Recycling kits and 26 large bins have been distributed to encourage eco-friendly practices.
* The “Operation Clean City” campaigns mobilize students, men, women and young people around collective cleanups and raising awareness about waste management in mining areas.
Towards a local recycling sector
In Sabodala-Massawa, Endeavour supports local entrepreneurship to structure a sustainable waste management sector:
* Training of subcontractors in the collection and processing of plastic, with provision of suitable equipment,
* Management of a sorting platform in the new village of Sabodala, in partnership with local stakeholders.
With its signature "One Endeavour, One Planet", the group aims to unite employees, partners and communities for an environmentally friendly mining model, where every local action contributes to a global impact.
