Crue du fleuve Sénégal à Matam : Le pont de Oréfondé submergé par les eaux
The rising waters of the Senegal River are causing inconvenience in the Dandé Mayo area. Here, roads and some crossing structures have been submerged. After Dembancané, where the flood wave made the access route to the village impassable, the Oréfondé bridge has just been submerged by floodwaters. As a result, the Oréfondé slip road, known for its strategic importance in trade between the Diéri and the riverside villages, is completely cut off. This passage (now closed to traffic), which until then served as a route to reach the riverside villages in this northern part, has become, once again, a lake, where one must brave a sheet of water several kilometers long before reaching dry land. This brings to light the problem of the area's isolation and the availability of canoes for transport during the rainy season.
Populations affected by disruptions in their travel to reach National Road 2 are facing difficulties in transporting food and goods, as well as a slowdown in economic activities.
As last year, the people of Thiasky, those of the two Ndiaffane, like their neighbors of Sinthiou Boumack, Sylla Worgo, Gababé fisherman, Dial fisherman and Fulani, Diongto, Sylla Djonto, Sinthiou Diam Dior, are facing enormous difficulties in leaving their villages. In fact, they now have to go through two stages.
The passenger must first take a vehicle to go to Diowguel (boarding point) before taking another canoe to Oréfondé on the national road 2. Subsequently, "the price of transport has doubled, to the great displeasure of users who have to pay nearly 5,000 francs to travel," said a resident who recounted the inconveniences of the past year.
