Gestion minière : « Les discours ne se reflètent pas sur le terrain », dénonce un député
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reaffirmed the need to rethink the role of mining companies in national development at the 8th Mining Exhibition. "More than ever, mining companies must become partners in progress and not simply resource exploiters. No mine should thrive where humanity declines, nor should any project be developed at the expense of future generations," the Head of State declared.
However, these statements were challenged by MP Amadou Dia during the examination of the 2026 budget for the Ministry of the Environment and Ecological Transition at the National Assembly. "The rhetoric is commendable, but it contradicts what we see on the ground. Local populations continue to suffer the negative impacts of mining operations without receiving the promised benefits," he denounced.
The parliamentarian thus called for greater consistency between political commitments and their concrete implementation, so that mining development is truly inclusive and sustainable. This comparison between presidential promises and parliamentary observations highlights the challenges facing the mining sector in Senegal: how to reconcile resource exploitation, respect for local communities, and environmental preservation for future generations.
