Before administrative and territorial authorities, elected officials, heads of decentralized services, and numerous stakeholders in the mining sector in the regions of Saint-Louis, Louga, and Matam, the Minister of Mines, Birame Soulèye Diop, noted the urgent need to regulate the unauthorized exploitation of sand, laterite, and construction materials. Drawing on the open days held by mines in the North Pole, he urged operators to regularize their activities and comply with the provisions of the Mining Code.
Expressing regret at the "extreme level of non-compliance in quarry operations," the minister instructed the Directorate of Mines and Geology, in conjunction with the regional directors of Mines, to work towards regularizing non-compliant quarries so that they become public mining sites within a reasonable timeframe. Thus, the mining authority, which is concerned about the existence of 28 illegal sites working in the extraction of laterite, sand, and other construction materials, says it is granting all unlicensed operators a period of 60 days to regularize their operations.
In order to preserve the environment by controlling the impacts of quarries and to control economic activity while avoiding diversion of objectives and speculation, he called on illegal operators to respect the law. "Those who operate must respect the law. If we want to act together to uphold the law, everyone must play their part. All those who do not comply will see the strict application of the provisions of the law," he warned.

Je suis loin d'etre sympathisant de Pastef, mais eux au moins ils parlent et ne volent pas, ne suracfturent pas, ne font pas d'un journaliste un apporteur d'affaires et architecte a la fois payé 21 milliards. C'est avec eux que j'ai su qu'il y a autant de carrieres exploitées sous Macky Sall, clandestinement. C'est avec eux que j'ai su qu'à Colobane, il y a eu ce taudis nigerien avec des puits d'eau a l'interieur, en plein Dakar !
