Bagarre pour un panier de légumes : La mère, la fille et la tante écopent de peines de prison ferme

The Thiès court has delivered its verdict in a case involving several members of the same family, following a violent altercation sparked by the disappearance of a basket of vegetables. T. Fall, his mother A. Guèye, and his aunt B. Fall were prosecuted for assault and battery resulting in a seven-day period of temporary incapacity for work.

At the end of the trial, the defendants were found guilty. T. Fall was sentenced to one month of imprisonment, while her mother, A. Guèye, and her aunt, B. Fall, each received 15 days of imprisonment.

In court on Monday, April 13, 2026, the plaintiff, FD Fall, explained that upon returning from the market, she had placed a basket of vegetables in the kitchen. As she was about to cook, she noticed they were missing and suspected her sister-in-law, B. Fall, from whom she demanded an explanation.

According to her testimony, the situation quickly escalated. She stated that B. Fall violently attacked her, striking her with a broom, knocking her to the ground, and then beating her severely. She also accused A. Guèye of inciting her daughter T. Fall and her sister-in-law B. Fall to beat her. The complainant further claimed that she had been insulted, notably called a "prostitute."

For their part, the three defendants contested the facts, in whole or in part. B. Fall acknowledged an altercation but claimed that the complainant had started the conflict by accusing her of theft and insulting her. She admitted to knocking her down, while denying any intentional violence. A. Guèye rejected all accusations of inciting violence. As for T. Fall, she maintained that she had intervened only to separate the two women, denying any involvement in the assault.

The public prosecutor had deemed the facts sufficiently established and had requested prison sentences of 15 days for A. Guèye and B. Fall, and 20 days for T. Fall. The court ultimately handed down harsher sentences to T. Fall, sentencing her to one month in prison, while upholding the prosecution's requests for the other two defendants.
