On Friday, April 17, 2026, around 10:33 a.m., the Richard-Toll city police station was alerted by the fire brigade to a drowning in the irrigation canal of the Senegalese Sugar Company (CSS), under the bridge connecting the Khouma Thiarène and Diamaguène neighborhoods.
Police officers, dispatched quickly to the scene, witnessed the recovery of the victim's lifeless body by firefighters after long minutes of searching. The child, wearing only dark blue shorts, showed no apparent suspicious marks. Photographs were taken of the remains.
The victim is A. Diallo, a 12-year-old Quranic student residing in the Khouma Santhie neighborhood. According to his grandmother, B. Sy, who was present at the scene, the child had left the family home in the morning to go begging. It was around 10 a.m. that she was informed of the tragedy by children playing near the canal, according to Seneweb sources.
The public prosecutor has been notified, and a formal request has been made to a forensic doctor to determine the exact cause of death.
