Grand-Yoff : Un chauffeur YANGO agressé et dépouillé de ses 187 000 F CFA , deux mineurs arrêtés
A driver for the YANGO platform was the victim of a violent knife attack on Sunday, January 25th, in the Arafat neighborhood of Grand-Yoff. Thanks to the swift action of the local police station's investigation unit, two of the assailants were quickly apprehended.
Mr. Mbengue was waiting for his client on the secondary road of the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line, near the Cardinal Hyacinthe Thiandoum College, where a cultural event called "Nguel" was taking place. It was then that a group of young men armed with knives attacked him. At knifepoint, the assailants stole his cell phone and his wallet containing 187,000 CFA francs. He immediately alerted a patrol from the Criminal Investigation Brigade, which was in the Arafat neighborhood.
Accompanied by the victim, the police officers gave chase to the assailants in the neighborhood. On foot, they discovered a group of individuals gathered around a makeshift fire, trying to keep warm. One of them was seen concealing a cell phone.
The individuals were quickly surrounded and subdued. The victim recognized and recovered his phone on the spot, then formally identified two of his attackers: E. Diop, born in 2009 in Grand-Yoff and residing in the Arafat district, and P. Fall, born in 2007 in the HLM Grand-Yoff and residing there.
When questioned, the two suspects, both minors, confessed to the crime. They stated that they had assaulted the driver, YANGO, and taken his phone before joining their friends, according to Seneweb sources.
However, they denied taking the cash, but failed to convince investigators. The two young men were taken into custody for questioning.
