Plus de 44 millions FCFA volés, une pesonnalité connue victime : Un redoutable gang mis hors d'état de nuire par la SU
The Urban Security Service of the Guédiawaye Central Police Station has dismantled a criminal network specializing in a particularly ingenious theft technique: "THIELY mode." This scheme involves simulating traffic accidents to steal money and valuables from trapped drivers.
The "THIELY mode": a million-dollar scam
On August 25, 2025, at around 10:47 p.m., trader Assane Diagne fell victim to this dreadful scheme at the SHAM/Guédiawaye intersection. Carrying the colossal sum of 30 million CFA francs intended for his supplier MDSène, he was traveling in his KIA vehicle when a gray Beverly motorcycle deliberately hit his car.
Within seconds, two motorcyclists surrounded his vehicle. While one engaged in a heated argument, accusing the victim of being responsible for the accident, his accomplice, positioned on the front passenger door, discreetly stole the bag containing 30 million CFA francs and a check for 1,320,000 CFA francs.
It was only after the criminals had left in a hurry that Assane Diagne noticed his precious luggage had disappeared.
A methodical police hunt
Neighborhood investigations quickly revealed that this was not an isolated incident. Numerous motorists had been victims of the same tactic in the Guédiawaye area. Urban security officers from the local Central Police Station then intensified their investigations.
The suspects were spotted riding a gray Beverly motorcycle without a license plate, cruising the streets and alleys of the neighborhood. A surveillance operation was launched, resulting in the arrest of two individuals in the middle of traffic:
Mr. Ba, alias "INO", 31 years old, motorcycle mechanic born in 1994 in Guédiawaye and Mr. Ndiaye, 31 years old, motorcycle mechanic born in 1994 in Guédiawaye.
Investigations continued, leading to the arrest of two other accomplices:
A.DIONE, 28 years old, motorcycle mechanic born in 1997 in Guédiawaye and
M.Ba, 22 years old, motorcycle salesman born on July 2, 2003 in Guédiawaye.
Despite their initial denials after being notified of their right to counsel, the suspects were unable to convince investigators. They did, however, admit to knowing each other and frequenting each other in the area.
A prolific network: more than 44 million FCFA stolen
The extent of the gang's criminal activities was revealed to be considerable when nine other victims came forward: Souleymane Keita, Oumar Ndiaye, Babacar Mbaye Ngaraf, Abdou Lahat Hanne, Ibrahima Fall, El Hadji Abdoulaye Ngom, Lassana Diaby, Cheikh Tidiane Tambedou and Moussa Dieng.
During the confrontation with the suspects, several complainants formally identified Mr. Ba, alias "INO," as having regularly ridden the Beverly motorcycle during the criminal acts. Mr. Ba was also recognized by three victims: Souleymane Keita, Lassana Diaby, and Cheikh Tidiane Tambedou.
A technical detail sealed the case: Babacar Mbaye Ngaraf had specified that the motorcycle's windshield had a small crack. This information proved to be correct during the inspection of the seized Beverly, according to Seneweb sources.
