Thiès : un berger et son neveu en prison pour un vol de chèvres
Shepherd S. Kâ and his nephew M. Kâ appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of theft committed as a group. They are accused of stealing several goats belonging to a farmer.
According to the facts presented at the hearing, the owner of the animals, after noticing their disappearance, alerted his neighbors to organize a search. The group followed tire tracks and footprints that led them to the two defendants, who were found in the bush. Before being taken to the police station, the two shepherds were allegedly beaten by the plaintiffs.
In court, the defendants denied the charges. S. Kâ maintained that they were simply looking for leaves to feed their flock when individuals intercepted them, claiming to have followed tire tracks and footprints to them.
For his part, the nephew, Mr. Kâ, stated during the preliminary investigation that they had abandoned the goats upon seeing the complainants approaching. He added, however, that he had confessed to the theft under duress, claiming he feared being lynched by these armed individuals.
The public prosecutor has requested the application of the law.
For the defense, Mr. Mbodj argued that the accusations were based on no tangible evidence, pointing out that the allegedly stolen goats were not found in the defendants' possession. He therefore pleaded for their outright acquittal.
The verdict is expected soon.
