The Thiès court ruled on Monday, April 20, on a theft case involving Mr. Guèye, a television repairman.
According to the facts, the defendant rode his motorcycle to D. Sarr's store, where he stole a television. While attempting to flee, he was apprehended and handed over to the police. Charged with theft, he was remanded in custody.
In court, Mr. Guèye readily admitted to the facts. He explained that he had acted with the intention of reselling the device to pay for his sick mother's prescriptions. Regretting his actions, he stated that it was a mistake that would not be repeated, before apologizing to the court.
For his part, the public prosecutor considered the facts to be established and requested the application of the law. After deliberation, the court found the defendant guilty of theft. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, suspended, and fined 50,000 FCFA.
