Thiès : Un livreur de pain devant le juge pour un trou de 26 millions FCFA dans la caisse
Mr. AK appeared before the Thiès Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, on charges of alleged breach of trust. The accused worked as a bread delivery driver for bakeries located in Mboro and Darou Khoudoss, owned by Ali Meroueh.
According to the indictment, a commission-based compensation system was applied to the delivery driver. At the end of each calculation period, when the amounts paid by AK exceeded the commission due, the difference was returned to him.
On the other hand, when the sums paid were less, he was notified in writing — with his signature or fingerprint — that he still owed a specified amount.
According to statements from the bakeries' accountants, Mr. Sow and Mr. Mokiyou, the delivery driver had accumulated a debt over time due to systematic shortages during his deliveries. The total amount of the loss is estimated at 26,262,580 FCFA, a sum he has reportedly not yet repaid.
In court, AK denied the charges against him. However, he admitted owing his employer 16 million CFA francs, refuting the 26 million mentioned in the complaint.
The defense lawyers argued that their client's partial admission alone could not constitute sufficient evidence to establish the offense of breach of trust. According to them, a simple accounting discrepancy is not enough to prove the offense in the absence of evidence demonstrating the defendant's deliberate dissipation or fraudulent misappropriation of funds.
For his part, the public prosecutor requested the application of the law. The court adjourned the case for deliberation until March 18, 2026.
