Développement de la nouvelle politique ferroviaire : le Chef de l’État trace les orientations
The President of the Republic reaffirmed the strategic importance of the railway in the national policy for regional development and attractiveness. During the Council of Ministers meeting, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye emphasized that the development of rail transport is a national priority, calling for an acceleration of ongoing reforms and projects in this sector.
To this end, the Head of State instructed the Minister of Land and Air Transport to conduct a rigorous assessment of the progress of projects and reforms undertaken in the railway sector. He stressed the urgent need to accelerate the rehabilitation and modernization of the Dakar-Tambacounda line, to finalize the National Railway Policy for 2050, and to establish a comprehensive overview of social dialogue and the grievances of current employees.
Furthermore, he instructed the Minister of Land and Air Transport to ensure, in close collaboration with APIX and all stakeholders, the effective commissioning of phase II of the Regional Express Train (TER), including the construction of the Sébikhotane station.
Following this momentum, President Faye instructed the Prime Minister to organize an inter-ministerial council dedicated to the railway sector and to ensure the effective implementation of resettlement plans for people impacted by the TER project, in compliance with the State's commitments.
