Froid polaire, libido d'enfer : Aux JO d'hiver, les athlètes épuisent 10 000 préservatifs en moins de 3 jours
Temperatures are below two degrees Celsius in Antholz-Anterselva, and below three degrees in Cortina d'Ampezzo… The days are particularly chilly in Italy for these Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, and it's essential to dress warmly. We're not just talking about down jackets, hats, gloves, or moon boots, which have become indispensable. As with every edition, the Olympic villages have been equipped with a large supply of condoms.
The stock sold out in record time
For these Italian Games, the organizers had made available approximately 10,000 condoms—an average of three per athlete for the entire duration of the competition. This figure is a far cry from the colossal stockpile planned for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where 300,000 condoms (two per athlete per day) were anticipated. And what was bound to happen, happened: the entire stockpile has already been exhausted in Italy, all in less than seventy-two hours.
“The supplies ran out in just three days,” an athlete told the newspaper La Stampa, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We were promised more, but we don’t know when.” Despite the geographically dispersed competition venues, the athletes continue to uphold the tradition of camaraderie. While awaiting the resupply, the organizers seem to have been surprised by the enthusiasm of the delegations, which was far more “warm” than the winter weather would have suggested.
