Charged with possession of 187 ecstasy tablets, BL Niang denied any involvement in drug trafficking, claiming in court that it was only vitamin C.
"I don't even know why I was arrested," he said, maintaining that those who arrested him "weren't wearing uniforms." This version of events contrasts with the evidence in the investigation file.
But the presiding judge reminded him that during the preliminary investigation, he had stated that a pill cost 2,500 CFA francs and that police officers, posing as customers, had ordered some. She also reminded him that he had admitted to the facts before the public prosecutor.
The prosecution argued that the quantity seized far exceeded what would be needed for personal use and contradicted the defendant's claim that the drugs were vitamins. The prosecutor therefore requested a two-year prison sentence and a fine.
The decision will be made next week.
