«500 milliards de dollars» : Elon Musk est devenu plus riche que 54 pays réunis
Elon Musk reached the historic milestone of $500 billion, or €425 billion, this Wednesday, October 1st. He is the first person to have such a fortune in value. More than the GDP of entire countries, here are some comparisons to better understand what such a sum represents.
Ever richer. Elon Musk's fortune was estimated at more than $500 billion on the night of October 1-2, 2025, as reported by Forbes. The famous American entrepreneur, who is riding a particularly successful month for his company Tesla, could afford many luxuries with such a sum. However, it's worth noting that the businessman doesn't own all of this money; it's the value of all his companies and shares on a given day.
With 425 billion euros, Elon Musk would indeed be in 43rd place in the ranking of the richest countries in terms of annual GDP, between Kazakhstan (432 billion euros) and Chile (409 billion euros) and ahead of countries like Norway and Austria.
Elon Musk weighs as much as the 54 poorest countries combined
This colossal fortune represents a figure comparable to the sum of the 54 countries with the lowest GDPs in the world, from Tuvalu to Montenegro, including Somalia and Jamaica. These countries represent respectively €44 million, €11.89 billion, €21.16 billion and €27.02 billion annually.
More concretely, with such a sum, Elon Musk could afford more than 37 billion Big Mac meals, 4.7 billion pairs of Air Force Ones, or 319 million iPhone 17 Pros. He would also be able to buy the world's most expensive car, Bugatti's "La Voiture Noire," 36,000 times over, at €16.7 million each. He could also afford the world's most expensive yacht, called the Eclipse, estimated at €1.35 billion, 314 times over.
He has the money to pay nearly 1,100 times for the most expensive painting in history, "The Savior of the World" by Leonardo da Vinci, which sold in 2017 for $450 million.
A fortune that is 62 times that of Real Madrid
Similarly, he could buy the "Antilla," reputed to be the most expensive house in the world, located in Mumbai (India), 425 times. Finally, for comparison, his fortune is worth 62 times the value of the world's most important football club, Real Madrid.
Thanks to his numerous businesses, the South African-born businessman can count on various rising stock market values. SpaceX, which he founded in 2002, is currently valued at $400 billion, or €340 billion. With Elon Musk holding a 42% stake in the company, he owns $143 billion thanks to this company. We can also mention xAI, a company specializing in artificial intelligence into which the social network X has been integrated, as has his flagship creation: Tesla.
