Cold sweats for many consumers. The major retailer Auchan announced Thursday that it had been the victim of "an act of cybercrime" that caused the theft of loyalty account data from "several hundred thousand" of its customers. The hacked data included the "first and last names, email and postal addresses, telephone numbers, and loyalty card numbers" of the affected customers, the group said in a press release, while assuring that "the incident has been contained."
"Banking data, passwords, and loyalty card PINs," as well as customer "savings pot amounts" are not affected, Auchan assured, adding that it was notifying all affected individuals and the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL). "Several hundred thousand" Auchan customers are affected, a spokesperson for the group told AFP. The northern retailer had already been the victim of a similar attack in November 2024.
