Aucun WC ne fonctionne dans l’avion, les passagers invités à uriner dans des bouteilles
Passengers on a flight from Bali to Brisbane, Australia, in late August were forced to urinate in bottles after all the plane's toilets stopped working.
Unbearable flight conditions. On August 26, passengers on a plane from Denpasar, Bali (Indonesia) to Brisbane (Australia) had to go without a toilet and urinate into bottles due to a malfunction, reports The Australian, relayed by The Independent.
The flight lasted six hours. Initially, one of the three toilets on the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft was already out of service, but the crew decided to take off anyway. During the flight, with 1 hour and 40 minutes left, the other two toilets were also rendered inoperable.
Urine spills on the floor
Without toilets, passengers had to hold their urine or find alternative solutions. "The crew informed us that we would have to relieve ourselves in bottles or in the already blocked toilets," said one passenger. "One elderly woman who couldn't hold it suffered the humiliation of urinating on herself in public."
Eventually, one of the sinks filled with urine and spilled onto the floor, causing a "foul odor" throughout the cabin. Fortunately, the flight, operated by Virgin Australia, arrived on time, and passengers quickly found a functioning restroom.
Virgin Australia apologized to passengers and "thanked [its] team for handling such a difficult situation on board." The airline did not confirm that passengers had been advised to urinate in bottles. It did, however, say that each customer would be contacted and given credit as compensation.
