Dati annonce porter plainte contre le Nouvel Obs qui lui attribue des propos sur une "conspiration gay"
Rachida Dati, the LR and MoDem candidate for mayor of Paris, announced on Wednesday that she is filing a complaint against Le Nouvel Obs for attributing to her "false and shameful" remarks about a "gay conspiracy" to make her lose.
According to the weekly magazine, the current Minister of Culture told several people that "the homosexual club" wanted to "make her lose" the election of March 15 and 22 and invoked a "gay conspiracy".
Le Nouvel Obs claims that these remarks were directed against his competitor Pierre-Yves Bournazel, Horizons candidate for City Hall, as well as Gabriel Attal, the head of Renaissance who supports this candidacy.
"The statements attributed to me by Le Nouvel Obs are false and shameful. This goes too far! Let those who spread these accusations do so openly because it is false. I am filing a defamation lawsuit," Rachida Dati reacted on X.
"Is this how you would talk about your competitors for mayor of Paris?", Pierre-Yves Bournazel challenged him, also on X.
"To suggest that a 'homosexual club' would act in the shadows to politically harm the personal ambitions of the Minister of Culture is a conspiratorial fantasy and contributes to the trivialization of hate speech," reacted Emmanuel Grégoire, candidate of the united left without LFI for the City Hall, in a statement.
"Rachida Dati must explain herself clearly and unambiguously. You cannot claim to unite Parisians while spreading stereotypes and insinuations that stigmatize a part of them," the Socialist MP believes.
"Another shipwreck for Rachida Dati," the outgoing socialist mayor Anne Hidalgo lashed out on Instagram.
In a letter on National Assembly letterhead addressed to Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, Emmanuel Grégoire calls on the latter to find out "what action" he intends to take in this matter.
"In doing so, she has given credence to the idea of a cabal based on the real or supposed sexual orientation of public and political officials, implicitly designating a category of our fellow citizens as structured in a hidden network of influence," he emphasizes in this letter sent to the press.
"It is a question of the credibility of public discourse, the clarity of the republican line that you embody, and the message addressed to all those who might feel hurt or implicated by such statements today," continued Mr. Grégoire.
"I therefore ask you to clarify whether a public apology or any other measure consistent with the requirement of exemplary government conduct will be required of the minister," he adds, as a reshuffle seems imminent.
