The French Ministry of Health has launched a plan to combat infertility, comprising 16 measures. This aims to improve fertility rates and reduce perinatal mortality in France. The plan is part of the "demographic rearmament" initiative championed by President Emmanuel Macron.
This policy aims to prevent, diagnose, treat, and innovate to enable French people to make informed choices about their fertility. This is especially important given that, according to TF1, more than 3 million French people have problems related to infertility.
Therefore, key measures include sending an informational letter to all 29-year-old French citizens about contraception, sexual health, and gamete cryopreservation. A communication campaign on reproductive issues is also planned for the end of 2026, along with a dedicated information website. The accreditation of new facilities for egg freezing and improved care for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis are also being considered.
According to French media, Health Minister Stéphanie Rist insists that the role of politicians is to open up possibilities without pressure or judgment.
However, some demographers believe that the decline in the birth rate is linked to the economic and social context, and that these measures will not change much.
